Before we get all geeky, here are some easy ways to find the Chromebook model number.

Check on the packaging or on the box your Chromebook arrived. There is a good chance that you will find the model number on the package itself. Check the buttom of your Chromebook. Most Chromebooks come with model number printed on the back or on a sticker. Check the shopping history on the platform you have purchased your Chromebook. You should find the model number in the product description.

If these fail to solve your problem, then here are some more ways to find Chromebook’s model number and specifications.

How to Find Out What Chromebook Model Do I Have

Let’s start with an easy option.

1. Using the Chromebook Recovery Utility

Chromebook Recovery Utility is a Chrome extension that will help you create recovery media on your Chromebook. But we are here for the additional feature it offers.

  1. First, install the Chromebook Recovery Utility Chrome Extension on your Chromebook.
  2. Once done, click on the Extensions icon at the top right corner of the Chrome browser and select the Chromebook Recovery Utility option.
  3. This will open the utility in a new window. Just click on the Get Started button at the bottom right corner of the Utility window.
  4. Here it asks to enter the model number of your Chromebook, anyhow it also gives you an easy option to find it. Just click on the codename beside “For this Chromebook, enter”.
  5. Once done, you should find the model number of your Chromebook under the Chromebook picture on the right side.

2. Find on About Page

Searching for the chrome://system will open the About page of your Chromebook where you can find everything related to your Chromebook like Chrome OS version, the codename of your Chromebook, serial number, firmware numbers, hardware, platform details, etc. along with the model number.

  1. Just open your Chrome browser and enter chrome://system and press Enter.
  2. On the About Chrome Page, just press Ctrl+F and search for model_name with an underscore in between.
  3. It will scroll down and show you the model number of the Chromebook.

3. Using the Cog Chrome Extension

The other two options in the list should solve the problem, but if you cannot find the model number of your Chromebook on the about system page, then try the Cog extension.

  1. Install the Cog Chrome Extension from Chrome Web Store.
  2. Now open the Cog app from the app drawer.
  3. Here you should find the hardware details of your device in a clean UI. Just take note of the processor name (CPU) and the amount of RAM (memory).
  4. Now you can do a quick Google search to find your Chromebook. Just enter your device manufacturer name + Chromebook+ processor name.

Finding Your Chromebook Model Name

Once you find the model of your Chromebook, you can check if your model supports Linux, Android apps or up to when your device will receive the update. Google maintains a list of all the Chromebooks and when will expire for you to check it out. With the latest updates, you can also check the expire date by opening Settings > About Chrome OS > Additional Details and you should find the date under Update Schedule option.
