While getting ready for a vacation last week, I wanted to download a few episodes of ‘Love Death and robots’. As I went on to start the downloads, I get this error:

The first thing that I did was change the Netflix password but it didn’t work. The second option is to upgrade my plan to Standard or Premium, but that would cost me more, given the fact that the others are mooching off the account I paid for in the first place. Fortunately, there is an easy way to remove other devices from your account and you can do it even on your smartphone. I’ll show you methods for both Desktop and Mobile. Let’s Begin. For Desktop

Head to the Netflix website and log in to your account entering the account details. It would prompt you to select a user, you can choose any user as it won’t change the steps. On the top right side, you’ll see your avatar, click it to reveal a drop-down menu. Select “Account”. It shows all the account details, scroll down to Settings section and click ‘Manage Download devices‘ to open all the linked devices which have been downloading content to their devices. It’ll show you the list of devices with current downloads and the Device Name. Click on the Remove Device button. This would remove all the downloaded content from their device. It’s really that simple.

For Mobile

If you use Netflix on mobile, removing other devices from your Netflix account is pretty easy. You can do it on both Android and iOS. While the steps for both apps are almost similar, iOS requires you to manually log in the Netflix account on the web browser. Open the Netflix account on your Smartphone browser. If you use Netflix on Android, simply, open the app, tap ‘More’ on the bottom right and select ‘Account’, it will redirect you to the web browser.

iOS is a little more restrictive and Netflix doesn’t have an option to redirect you to the account, therefore, log in to your Netflix account directly on a web browser. Tap the Hamburger button on the top left and select ‘Account’.

Steps for both Android and iOS are the same from here on. Scroll down to Settings and find ‘Manage Download Devices‘. Tap the option and it will reveal all the devices linked with your account.

It’ll show you the list of devices with current downloads. You can tap on the Show downloads link, to see what shows they have downloaded.

Unfortunately, there is no option to see which users have downloaded the show, so, you would just have to take a guess. To remove a device from your Netflix account, Tap ‘Remove Device’ button under the user and boom, they’re gone from your account and they can no longer watch the downloaded videos.

Closing Words

These were two ways to remove download devices from your Netflix account in a few easy steps. You don’t get all the information but basic information like the device’s Operating System (Android or iOS). It’s difficult to find out who exactly was using your account for downloads but when you remove a device, all downloads on that device will no longer be available. And you can start downloading on your own device. Tell us if you face any problem while removing download devices from your Netflix account in the comments below.
